Zymox Otic with Hydrocortisone is used in cats and dogs for the treatment of acute and chronic otitis externa due to bacterial, viral and yeast infections accompanied with itching and inflammation. Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution has what the manufacturer calls a Three-Point Enzyme System. Each enzyme - lactoperoxidase, lysozyme, and lactoferrin - has its own unique properties that, when combined, becomes a powerful antimicrobial formula. The antibacterial property of the lactoperoxidase is based upon inhibiting vital bacterial metabolic enzymes. Lysozyme kills bacteria by disrupting the formation of a glycosidic bond between the two components of peptidoglycan, a constituent of the bacterial cell wall. Lastly, lactoferrin - an iron-binding protein - is bacteriostatic against a wide range of microorganisms, which means it inhibits the growth of the bacteria. The anti-inflammatory action of hydrocortisone reduces itching and inflammation.

DIRECTIONS: Apply liberally to fill the ear canal. Gently massage, working the medication into the infected area. Permit the pet to shake their head to remove excess medication. For acute infections treat once a day for 7 days. For chronic infections, treat once a day for 14 days.

SIDE EFFECTS: There are no reported side effects.

CAUTION(S): Do not use this product when using any other topical ear medications or cleansers, since the enzyme activity of Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution with Hydrocortisone may not work. Store this product at room temperature. Keep out of the reach of children. FOR ANIMAL USE ONLY.
