Zymox Otic with Hydrocortisone is used in the treatment of the external ear inflammation on cats and dogs. It is effective against acute and chronic otitis, caused by the yeasts, bacteria and viruses.
Cats and dogs are prone to frequent external ear inflammations. The specific shape of their ear canal (as the L-shaped hallway) enables the waste material buildup. Accumulated dead skin cells, wax and crust provide an excellent environment for yeast and bacteria buildup. As a result of irritation and inflammation, the affected ears become itchy. The animals are scratching the ears and shaking their heads to relieve the discomfort. The surrounding of the affected ear may be dirty, smelly and irritated with constant scratching. The external ear canal is swollen and narrowed, sometimes filled with discharge and cerumen. In severe cases, the inflammation spreads to the middle and inner ear and causes further complications (tilting of the head, vomiting, incoordination).
External ear inflammation can be the symptom of conditions such as allergic reactions, parasite invasions (e.g. ear mites), autoimmune diseases or foreign bodies in the ear canal. It is often complicated by the viral, yeast or bacterial infections.

HOW IT WORKS
Zymox Otic with Hydrocortisone contains several active ingredients. There are three natural enzymes with antimicrobial properties: Lactoferrin, Lysozyme and Lactoperoxidase.
Lactoferrin works as a bacterial growth inhibitor, but it has the potential to kill the bacteria by damaging their cell wall. Lactoferrin is also very effective against viruses and yeasts.
Lysozyme kills the bacteria by damaging peptidoglycan, an important compound of the bacterial cell wall.
Lactoperoxidase is a bacterial growth inhibitor. It also reduced the activity of certain viruses.
Zymox Otic with Hydrocortisone also contains Hydrocortisone. It is an anti-inflammatory drug from the class of corticosteroids. Hydrocortisone blocks the inflammation symptoms on a molecular level. It stops the production of inflammatory mediators and prevents the activation of chemicals and cells responsible for signs of inflammation.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Follow the veterinarian’s guidelines when administering Zymox Otic with Hydrocortisone to your pet. Zymox solution is applied topically into the ear canal. The ear must not be cleaned before the administration of Zymox. Otherwise, the enzyme system will fail to function.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Zymox Otic with Hydrocortisone can be applied liberally into the ear canal. The ear should be gently massaged, allowing the solution to spread evenly through the entire ear canal. The excess liquid can be removed by wiping or the pet can be allowed to shake the head in order remove excess solution.
In cases of acute ear inflammation, Zymox Otic with Hydrocortisone is applied once daily for 7 days. In cases of chronic ear inflammation, Zymox Otic with Hydrocortisone is applied for 14 days once daily.
Zymox Otic with Hydrocortisone contains Lactoperoxidase, Lactoferrin, Lysozyme, purified water, benzyl alcohol, fragrance, glucose oxidase, glycerin, sodium lauryl sarcosinate and propylene glycol.
