Vetmedin, manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., is a cardiac drug approved for oral administration to canines.
How it Works
Vetmedin works to decrease resistance of blood flow by dilating the arteries and veins of the heart. VEtmedin also strengthens the cardiac output which circulates the blood to the rest of the body.
WHAT THIS PRODUCT CURES
Vetmedin is prescribed to canines to aid in the management of mild to severe heart failure. Particularly cases of heart failure caused by atrioventricular valvular insufficiency or dilated cardiomyopathy.
The heart is the power house which keeps the body working. As the heart relaxes and contract it sends blood to every organ of the body, supplying life. All vertebrae containing organisms are unable to survive without the use of the heart. In the condition known as congestive heart failure, the heart muscle fails to function properly. This condition can cause serious complications and can even cause sudden death in serious cases. Symptoms of heart failure include; distension of the abdomen, liver enlargement, breathing difficulties, lethargy, weakness, and collapse.
Cardiomyopathy is a terminology which is reserved for those conditions of the heart which are unexplained. Cardiomyopathy conditions are usually due to mutations of the heart, genetic inheritance conditions, or conditions present at time of birth. Cardiomyopathy conditions may go unnoticed for the majority of the pet’s life as mild cases cause little to no problems. Abnormalities during auscultator readings and an intolerance to exercise are common indications of a heart condition.
An atrioventricular valvular insufficiency is when the flap of the heart's mitral valve loosens and gradually deteriorates; allowing blood to seep through the valve between beats, leading to congestive heart failure. Veterinary geneticists and cardiologists have developed breeding guidelines to eliminate this hereditary condition.
The heart is an essential organ of every living vertebrae animal. Pet owners should note that pet aliments associated with heart failure include; distension of the abdomen, liver enlargement, breathing difficulties, lethargy, weakness, and collapse.
