PRODUCT INFO

Vetericyn Hot Spot Spray is a topical skin product intended for use on dogs, cats, horses, caged birds and guinea pigs.

WHAT THIS PRODUCT CURES

Vetericyn Hot Spot Spray is used in quick treatment of various skin lesions, such as hot spots, cuts, burns, lacerations, post-surgical wounds, scratches, skin irritations, rashes and skin ulcers. It is effective against bacterial (MRSA – Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus – included), viral and yeast skin infections in dogs, cats, horses, guinea pigs and caged birds.

PET SYMPTOMS

Due to their physically active lifestyle, pets and domestic animals are prone to accidents and injuries. They often sustain various skin lesions: scratches, lacerations, burns. Wounds present a visible disruption in the tissue integrity of the skin. In severe cases, the damage can affect other tissues underneath the skin (connective tissue, blood vessels, muscles, nerves, etc.). The skin surrounding the wound often becomes inflamed; it appears red and swollen. If the surface blood vessels are damaged, skin wounds are bleeding. Surface burns are characterized with redness and blisters.

The animal skin often gets irritated by the various outer impacts, such as skin parasites or allergens. Irritated skin is covered with rash; it is often red, itchy and inflamed as a result of frequent scratching, biting or licking.

Hotspot, also known as moist eczema, is a specific, localized form of skin lesion caused by some sort of irritation. The affected area is severely itchy, and the animal is licking, biting and scratching the skin to try and relieve the unpleasant sensation. The constant wetness from the licking and the thick fur coat provide a warm and moist environment for bacterial growth and development of infection with further irritation.

PET AILMENTS

Skin lesions can be connected with certain skin diseases, such as skin infections (e.g. pyoderma in dogs), allergies, skin parasites (e.g. mites), skin tumors (e.g. trichoepithelioma in guinea pigs), degenerative skin diseases or infectious diseases (e.g. Canine distemper).

RELATIVE INFO ON BREEDS MOST ASSOCIATED WITH THIS AILMENT

Animals breeds with skin folds, such as Shar pei dogs, are prone to skin infections. Thick haired breeds are likely to suffer from hot spots (e.g. Chow Chow dogs).
