How PERCORTEN -V works:
PERCORTEN -V (Desoxycorticosterone pivalate) It is a mineralocorticoid hormone, normaly produced by your dog adrenal glands. When this hormone is in deficit, your dog may suffer hypotensive shock and pre-renal azotemia that can be fatal. PERCORTEN -V it is the substitute when your dog adrenal gland do not work properly.

What is PERCORTEN -V:
PERCORTEN -V it is a mineralocorticoid hormone (steroid) that control transcription and synthesis of proteins. PERCORTEN -V is the treatment for hypoadrenocorticism (addisons disease) on your dog.
What I need to know about PERCORTEN -V:
PERCORTEN -V is a white intramuscular injectable suspension. PERCORTEN -V is recommended for the treatment of hypoadrenocorticism in dogs. You need supply of Syringe 3cc W/ 22g x 3/4" Needle for PERCORTEN -V. PERCORTEN -V comes in a 25mg/ml 4ml multi-dose vial. PERCORTEN -V must be supplied by small daily doses of 0.2â0.4 mg/kg/day. If your dog is diagnostic with Addisons Disease watch closely for depression, lethargy, vomiting or diarrhea which indicate a probable glucocorticoid deficiency. Shake the vial thoroughly to mix the microcrystals with the suspension vehicle before injection. Prevent inadvertent intravenous injection, which may cause acute collapse and shock.
What I need to tell and ask my veterinarian if PERCORTEN -V is prescribe to my dog:
If your veterinarian prescribe PERCORTEN -V to your dog, comment with your vet if your dog is pregnant, suffering from congestive heart disease, have severe renal disease or is overweight.
Indications for this drug:
Follow strictly the indications as your veterinarian gives on your prescription. PERCORTEN -V is indicated for the management of mineralocorticoid hormone deficit. You need supply of Syringe 3cc W/ 22g x 3/4" Needle for PERCORTEN -V. Mix the PERCORTEN -V with the suspension vehicle and shake the vial before injection. PERCORTEN-V suspension is to be injected intramuscular.The recommended dosage of PERCORTEN -V is a range of 0.75 to 1.0 mg per pound of your dog body weight given every 21 to 30 days,
What I should do if 1 dose is skipped:
Continue with the following dose, do not give two doses at once.
What I should do if my pet suffer an overdose:
Call or Visit your nearest veterinary emergency center immediately.
During the trealtment:
Call your veterinarian about any other medication you may want to give to your dog. Store PERCORTEN -V at room temperature, between 59Â°-86Â° F (15Â°-30Â° C).
Side Effects of PERCORTEN -V:
Your dog may experience depression, polyuria, polydipsia, anorexia, skin and coat changes, diarrhea, vomiting, weakness, weight loss, incontinence, increased blood volume (excessive weight gain may indicate fluid retention), edema, cardiac enlargement, pain on injection and injection site abscess following the use of PERCORTEN -V. Some of these effects may resolve with adjustments in dose or interval of treatment.
