METACAM (meloxicam) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) viscous oral suspension with the odor of honey, indicated for the management of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs.

What is METACAM:
METACAM(meloxicam) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the oxicam class. Each milliliter of Metacam Oral Suspension contains 1.5 mg of meloxicam.
What I need to know about METACAM:
Is an oral Suspension with honey flavor. If your dog shows symptoms of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis, METACAM helps to control those symptoms. Shake well METACAM bottle before use, then remove cap. METACAM comes with a syringe you can adjust to the bottle to facilitate administration You can drop METACAM oral suspension into your dog's food using the dropper bottle, one drop for each pound of body weight or you can placed METACAM directly into your dog mouth. You can not use METACAM Oral Suspension in cats. Keep your dog hydrated if is taking METACAM. Administer METACAM orally with food. METACAM may cause acute renal failure and death to you cats.
What I need to tell and ask my veterinarian if METACAM is prescribe to my dog:
If your veterinarian prescribe METACAM to your dog, comment with your vet if you have knowledge that your dog have history of bleeding disorders, had in the past diuretic therapy, existing renal condition, cardiovascular, and/or hepatic dysfunction.
Indications for this drug:
Follow strictly the indications as your veterinarian gives on your prescription. METACAM is indicated for the management of pain and inflammation disorders affecting your dog muscular and/or osteo articular systems, and for the management of certain process of topical pain and inflammation as surgeries, etc. The recommended dosage of METACAM is 0.09 mg/lb (0.2 mg/kg) of your dog body weight only on the first day of treatment, thereafter administer once daily at a dose of 0.045 mg/lb (0.1 mg/kg)
What I should do if 1 dose is skipped:
Continue with the following dose, do not give two doses at once.
What I should do if my pet suffer an overdose:
Call or Visit your nearest veterinary emergency center immediately.
During the treatment:
Appropriate blood laboratory testing is recommended prior to and periodically during the time your dog is treated with METACAM. Be advised to observe your dog for signs of potential drug toxicity and adverse reactions during treatment with METACAM. Call your veterinarian about any other medication you may want to give to your dog. Keep your dog hydrated. Store METACAM at room temperature, between 59°-86° F (15°-30° C).
Side Effects of METACAM:
During the treatment with METACAM, your dog may be expose to vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, gastrointestinal ulceration, azotemia, elevated creatinine, renal failure, lethargy, depression and elevated liver enzymes and pruritus.
