Lysodren (mitotane) is used by veterinarians to treat Cushing's Disease in dogs. Lysodren requires a prescription from your veterinarian. DIRECTIONS: Give this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand the directions, ask your pharmacist or veterinarian to explain them to you. Your veterinarian will determine the exact dose to be given for the loading phase, and then the maintenance phase. The veterinarian may prescribe glucocorticoids such as prednisone for use in stressful situations such as travel, surgery, or illness. SIDE EFFECTS: Side effects that may occur when using Lysodren include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Other side effects may also occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to the animal. CAUTION(S): Side effects include lethargy, weakness, and vomiting. If they occur, stop using the medication and contact your veterinarian. It should not be used in pregnant or nursing animals. Always wear disposable gloves when giving Lysodren to your pet and wash your hands after handling this medication. Pregnant women, or women trying to get pregnant should not handle this medication. Store this medication at room temperature and protect from light. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
