Legend (hyaluronate Sodium), distributed by Bayer Co., is an Intra-Articular injectable solution for Equine.
WHAT THIS PRODUCT CURES
Legend (hyaluronate Sodium) treats horses with synovitis, joint disease, and arthritis.
The joints within the body of equine and canines alike, aid in basic everyday movements. There are four joint types in the bodies of horses. First, the Hinge joint are joints such as the knee, while allows abductions and adduction movements. Second, the Pivot joint which allow the head and neck to turn to right and left directions. Third, the ball and socket joint which is the joint located in the hip, allowing rotation. Fourth, the gliding joint allows rotation of the ankles. Every joint is supported by muscles, tendons, and ligaments to provide power to each joint. The joints are also cushioned with cartilage and synovial fluids to prevent bone-on-bone grinding. Over time synovial fluids wear down, causing the bones to wear down together, this condition is known as acute or chronic joint disease.
A pet which has developed acute joint disease will show signs of lameness and maybe painful to the touch. The joint itself may appear swollen and warm when felt. Chronic joint disease will cause the pet a great deal or pain and reduce the motion of their once flexible joints. As the condition progresses, the pet will become unwilling to move about, to travel, and will have daily lameness. A pet in this condition will be unable to perform as he/she once had and may become depressed. Secondary problems can arise from joint disease as pets will have difficulties standing.
Synovitis associated osteoarthritis, causes a great deal of pain and reduces motion. The horse will become unwilling to move about, to travel, and will have daily lameness. A horse in this condition will be unable to perform as he/she once had and may become depressed. Secondary problems can arise from osteoarthritis as horses will have difficulties standing.
