Constipation is defined as the absence or inability to pass a stool. Constipation commonly causes symptoms of discomfort such as bloat, indigestion, gas, and abdominal pain. Painful defecation is the leading health problems in the veterinary field. Most commonly seen in feline patients, painful defecation is due to a condition known as constipation. Constipation refers to irregular bowel movements, hard or dry bowels, combined with pet straining. Constipation is always a medical concern as in healthy pets a bowel should be present daily.
