HYT 1-6 Hytryl, manufactured by Kinetic, is a sterile lavage solution used post-surgery. This sterile sodium hyaluronate lavage is used to replace synovial fluids after surgery in horses, cats, and dogs.
WHAT THIS PRODUCT CURES
HYT 1-6 Hytryl replaces lost synovial fluids after arthrotomy procedures.
Synovial fluid is a biological lubricant that provides low-wear and low-friction aids to articular cartilage surfaces. Synovial fluids are secreted by chondrocytes within the cartilage, and by synoviocytes within synovium. This natural lubricant is a combination of phospholipids, hyaluronic acid, and proteoglycan 4. The synovial fluid accompanies the synovial space, providing cushion to the joints within the body. A deficiency in said lubricating system may produce an erosion of articulating surfaces accompanied by cartilage.
Over time synovial fluids wear down, causing the bones to wear down together, this condition is known as acute or chronic joint disease. A pet which has developed acute joint disease will show signs of lameness and maybe painful to the touch. The joint itself may appear swollen and warm when felt. Chronic joint disease will cause the pet a great deal or pain and reduce the motion of their once flexible joints. As the condition progresses, the pet will become unwilling to move about, to travel, and will have daily lameness. A pet in this condition will be unable to perform as he/she once had and may become depressed. Secondary problems can arise from joint disease as pets will have difficulties standing.
Veterinarians have found a surgical procedure in which to replace the damage done by joint disease. This surgical procedure is known as an Arthrotomy. An Arthrotomy refers to the surgical procedure in which the veterinarian makes an incision in the joint. During this procedure the animal will have lost a decent amount of synovial fluid, in which must be replaced through lavage therapy.
Joint disease will source a great deal of pain to any pet. Range of motion will become reduced and the pet will become unwilling to travel, move often, and experience day to day lameness. A pet experiencing these aliments will develop secondary depression as he or she is no longer able to enjoy the activities once available to them.

QUESTIONS FOR MY VET
1.What steps should I take if my pet has adverse effects from product?
No adverse reactions have been reported.
2. What causes the fluids in my horse’s joints to deteriorate?
Athletic horses and horse in constant movement tend to wear down the support fluids faster than a horse at rest.
5. Should I prevent my horse/dog/cat from engaging in physical activates during treatment?
No, but keep the activities light. Simply engage your pet in a light exercise, such as a walk, to prevent stiffness.
3. Why is Hytryl necessary after my pet’s joint surgery?
After surgery, your pet’s body will work hard to replace synovial fluids lost during surgery. Hytryl will help your pet’s body produce synovial fluids to the affected joint.
4. What kind of after surgery care should I be aware of?
Allow your pet plenty of rest.
Do not allow bandaging to become dirty or wet.
Watch wound for bleeding or reopening.
Administer pain medications as instructed.
5. What would happen if my pet’s bandage became wet and I did not replace it?
Wet, dirty bandages can lead to infection, attraction of pests, and even skin/tissue decay.
6. How can I prevent bandages from becoming wet?
At times when your pet will be going outside, wrap the bandage lightly with a plastic bag or wrap. Remember not to leave the plastic on full-time as skin must receive oxygen to heal.

BRAND VS GENERIC COMPARISON
Hytryl may not have a generic comparison per-say, but there is another product available. Polyglycan is a sterile lavage solution used to replace synovial fluids after surgery. This product works just as Hytryl and may be more cost efficient than Hytryl.
How it Works
active ingredient, hyaluron, is a synthetic replacement for the body’s natural synovial fluids. As the natural synovial fluids have broken down over time, LubriSyn replenished the cushion structure around the joints.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Use as final lavage solution before incision closure.
Discard all remaining vial.
