PRODUCT INFO
FUR2 Furosemide, distributed by Vedco, is a diuretic-saluretic medication for use in dogs.

WHAT THIS PRODUCT CURES
FUR2 Furosemide is used to treat edemas in patients with particular types of kidney disease, liver disease, or congestive heart failure.

PET SYMPTOMS
An edema is referred to as an accumulation of fluids from the tissues causing swelling underneath the skin. Edemas may be caused by capillary pressure disorders, neoplasia, insect bites, or contact with toxic agents, clots within the blood, burns, and injuries. Localized edemas can be treated through compressing warm cloths against the area to decrease swelling. Severe edemas, such as those caused by underlying disease, should be consulted through the local veterinarian. Edemas can also be caused by kidney, liver, and heart disease.
The liver, heart, and kidneys all have one element in common; they all act as filters or moves of the blood. Blood contains a large amount of water and oxygen as it is passed with through the body. The blood begins in the heart as it is passed through to the lungs, then out to the body to oxygenize the vital organs. In heart disease, however, the heart muscle fails and slows down the blood pumping process. Fluids begin to accumulate in the lungs causing symptoms of distension of the abdomen, liver enlargement, breathing difficulties, lethargy, weakness, and collapse. A similar problem can occur in the liver or kidneys. The kidneys and liver filter harmful toxins from the blood. When these organs fail, blood is no longer able to pass through and toxins remain in the blood. As the blood sits in one location, fluids accumulate forming an edema. Common symptoms which will appear in a dog or cat with liver or kidney disease include; abnormal coloring of urine, a poor appetite, pain in the abdominal region, noticeable weakness, and vomiting.
