WHAT THIS PRODUCT CURES
Equioxx Oral Paste Syringe (Firocoxib) is used to reduce the inflammation and pain caused by osteoarthritis.
Arthritis not only affects humans but horses as well. Pain, inability to move joints properly, muscle weakness are all common symptoms which follow this condition of the bones. Arthritis commonly affects those of older age as the bones and cartilage weaken over time. A pet with arthritis is a pet in need of veterinary help. Arthritis can prevent horses from activities in the normal life style, leading to depression, inability to stand, inability to relieve themselves in appropriate locations, and several other routine daily activities.
When a horse is young, the bones are filled with red bone marrow. Blood cells are actually produced in the bones and constantly replace the old blood cells with new. The blood cells nourish the bones and the growing body they must support. However once the body has finished growing it no longer needs the vigorous supply of new blood cells. Age after age the cells will decrease in production until eventually the bones will contain yellow bone marrow. This yellow marrow is composed of cells made up of fats. The red bone marrow is still present but resides to larger bones of the body such as the pelvis. Not only does this process lead to arthritis but easy bone break as well.
The second cause of arthritis is due to damage of the cartilage. Cartilage is a formation of connective tissues to aid as cushions to the joints. However just as a cushion of a couch breaks down over years of wear, so does the cartilage. As the cartilage wears down the bones begin to rub on each other causing inflammation and a great deal of pain. Pets which are suffering from illness, disease, malnutrition, obesity, or calcium deficiencies are at a higher risk in developing arthritis at an earlier age.
