Epi-Otic Ear Cleanser is a mild, non-irritating, routine ear cleanser for dogs and cats of all ages.
WHAT THIS PRODUCT CURES
Epi-Otic Ear Cleanser is used for routine ear cleaning as well as part of the otitis externa treatment in dogs and cats. Epi-Otic Ear Cleanser removes excessive cerumen and prevents bacteria and yeasts buildup in the ear canal.
The external ear canal in dogs and cats is deeper and longer than that of humans. It is, therefore, prone to excessive cerumen, crust and wax buildup. Breeds with flapped ears are more likely to develop external ear infections than animals with upwards oriented ears. Flapped ears provide warm and moist environment in the external ear canal. Those are excellent conditions for bacteria and yeast buildup. Animals with external ear infections (otitis externa) are often shaking their heads and scratching the ears. The affected ear appears red, swollen and hot. Its surrounding is often dirty, sometimes even smelly. The skin around the affected ear can be scratched and inflamed. Upon veterinary inspection, inflamed ear canal appears red. As a result of swelling, it can be narrower than expected. The external ear canal is often filled with a large amount of cerumen. In complicated cases, the inflammation can spread to the middle and/or internal ear with additional symptoms such as pierced eardrum, tilting of the head, incoordination, loss of appetite and occasional vomiting.
External ear inflammation accompanies numerous conditions. It is often the main symptom of parasite infestations, such as ear mites. Otitis externa is one of the main clinical manifestations of allergic reactions. It is common with autoimmune diseases, foreign bodies in the ear canal, bacterial and yeast infections.
