Epakitin is a nutritional supplement for support of kidney function for dogs and cats.
WHAT THIS PRODUCT CURES
Epakitin limits the absorption of phosphorus from kidneys with the help of chitosan, the active ingredient. Chitosan is a natural compound that binds phosphorus and that way slow down the progression of chronic kidney disease in animals.
Chronic Kidney Disease affects both cats and dogs of all ages. However, it is frequently seen in older animals. Kidney damage usually happens very slowly and at first undetectable. Clinical signs of kidney failure mostly appear once the significant and irreversible damage to the kidney tissue is already done. Although Chronic Kidney Disease cannot be cured or reversed, it is a manageable condition whose progression can be slowed. The common symptoms of renal failure in both cats and dogs include frequent urination, increased amounts of excreted urine, the appearance of blood in urine, thirst. The animals are weak, lethargic, without appetite. They are losing weight, suffering from diarrhea, vomiting, constipation and seizures.
There are several conditions that can lead to chronic kidney failure, such as tumors (e.g. lymphoma), diabetes mellitus, urinary blockage and certain hereditary factors.
