Skin is the protective barrier of the body, protecting it from various harmful influences. However, there are numerous conditions that disrupt the skin integrity, causing inflammation and damage. Apart from injuries leading to inflammation and infection, there are several dermatologic conditions, such as allergic dermatitis or keratoseborrheic disorders that cause changes on the dog’s skin and coat. Animals with dermatologic conditions are often suffering from persistent itch. They are aggressively scratching and biting their skin on the affected areas of the body, causing crusts and inflammation with further irritation to develop. They are often suffering from hair loss in the affected areas. The hair coat can also be damaged, with dry and brittle hairs and gray scales on the skin. In some cases, animals are suffering from oily skin with sticky, greasy coat and smelly ears.
There are numerous dermatological problems in dogs causing various skin symptoms. Some of the most common ailments include atopic dermatitis, allergies, acral lick dermatitis, lupus erythematosus, endocrine issues and skin infections.
