Cosequin DS Capsules is a nutritional supplement that helps dogs maintain healthy joints. It has been rated the number one veterinarian-recommended joint health supplement brand. Cosequin's active ingredients include glucosamine and chondroitin, and it can have a positive impact on joint health, while avoiding the side effects that can sometimes accompany prescription drugs. Cosequin contains glucosamine, which is a natural compound that is found in healthy cartilage in both humans and pets. It helps hydrate healthy joints by increasing the production of molecules that bind and hold water in the cartilage. Healthy cartilage provides cushioning which helps protect a pet's joints while exercising. Many believe that it provides clinical benefit in the synovial fluid by strengthening cartilage and aiding glycosaminoglycan synthesis. Further research on the effectiveness of glucosamine is still needed, but many of our customers find it to be very beneficial to their pets. The glucosamine is used in conjunction with sodium chondroitin sulfate, an important structural component of cartilage that provides much of its resistance to compression. DIRECTIONS: The usual starting dose, for the first 6 weeks, for dogs 10-24 lbs is 1 capsule daily. After 6 weeks the dose can be reduced to 1 capsule every other day. The usual dose for dogs 25-49 lbs is 1 capsule twice a day. After 6 weeks, the dose can be reduced to 1 capsule once a day. CAUTION(S): This product is not intended to be used in place of other treatments in the presence of an infection or if surgery is needed.
